NVIS products for use at a regional scale

The NVIS information hierarchy is based on six levels, where Levels I–III present broad vegetation classifications at national scales, and Levels IV–VI present a detailed level of information for users at a regional scale.

Level V (vegetation association) and Level VI (vegetation sub-association) were targeted for incorporating native vegetation into the NVIS, as these define the level of detail required by decision makers and managers on a regional scale. Level I-V data is available for downloading as a series of regional-based vector datasets. No gap-filling has been undertaken for this product.

Given the relatively complex nature of the NVIS data system and hierarchy, a comprehensive guide to using the database is provided in the NVIS Attribute Manual. The manual includes a section on NVIS vegetation description attributes.
