Ecologically Sustainable Development
The development of a local sustainability assessment framework was a key recommendation from the participants at the National Local Leaders in Sustainability Forum in 2000.
The framework will assist local governments to systematically assess their progress towards sustainability. It will also recognise existing relevant activities undertaken by local governments and variations in local circumstances and issues. Consultation during the development of the draft framework suggested that there was local government support for this initiative.
The Department recently called for feedback on the proposed Local Sustainability Assessment Framework. The results of this feedback process and the final Framework will be available soon.
