The South Coast Wetland Carers network is an Australian Government funded project.  The partnership between South East Local Land Services, Wetland Care Australia and Conservation Volunteers is looking to improve the health of wetlands on the South Coast of NSW through delivery of on  ground works on public and private land, educational opportunities and monitoring of our wetland environments.

The South Coast Wetland Carers Network is teaming up with the Illawarra Birders Club to participate in the Lake Illawarra wader bird survey on World Wetland Day.  Lake Illawarra is a cultural and environmental centrepiece for the Illawarra region and plays host to regionally significant flora and fauna communities. The Illawarra Birders Club will lead us on a walk through some of these communities and we will record the data collected. You will be provided with an insight into what birds inhabit the local areas, where you are likely to find them and how to identify them.

The day’s activities will wrap up with a light breakfast on the foreshore of the Lake’s entrance, where there will be a chance to meet and greet some of the staff and volunteers dedicated to improving the wetlands in our region.
