Introduction
Management of Commonwealth environmental water requires on-going assessment of options including whether water should be used within the current year, carried over for use in future years, or whether trade should occur (disposal or acquisition). In order to help inform the development of water trading arrangements, a discussion paper on trading Commonwealth environmental water was released for public comment in November 2011.
Responses to the issues raised will inform a position paper which it is anticipated will be released in the second half of 2012. The position paper will provide further detail on proposed arrangements for implementing trade and a proposed set of operating rules under which trade would be conducted.
In response to the discussion paper, some water market intermediaries asked whether we would be interested in receiving information on the services that could be provided by water market intermediaries.
The submissions period for responses to the discussion paper on trading Commonwealth environmental water, including information about intermediary services, closed on 11 May 2012. However, as the process of developing trading arrangements is ongoing, we welcome feedback, both formal and informal, on trading arrangements at any stage.
