Applying to become an Assessor Accrediting Organisations

Assessors conducting standardised Home Sustainability Assessments for the Australian Government are required to be registered with a recognised Assessor Accrediting Organisation.

Services provided

Assessor Accrediting Organisations provide support services to Assessors to ensure that households receive independent, high quality advice on options to reduce their environmental impact at home.

Services typically include:

Registering suitably qualified and experienced persons;
Conducting Federal Police checks;
Offering opportunities for continuing professional development (ie. training, seminars);
Offering Professional Indemnity Insurance; and
Conducting quality assurance checks on assessment services.

Protocol for Assessor Accrediting Organisations

The Australian Government invites all interested organisations to apply to be an Assessor Accrediting Organisation for the Home Sustainability Assessment Scheme according to the following Protocol.

Applications must be submitted in writing to the National Administrator, agreeing to abide by the Protocol, and include detail of the following:

a. Experience in providing member services to the building industry.
b. Experience in relation to building sustainability assessment services.
c. Experience in relation to the overarching competencies required for Assessors conducting Home Sustainability Assessments.
d. Addressing the requirements outlined in the Protocol, including:
- (i) Recognition of Prior Learning policy;
- (ii) Trainer Qualification and Experience policy;
- (iii) Statement of minimum insurance requirements;
- (iv) Statement of quality assurance services;
- (v) Statement of fees.
e. Potential or actual conflicts of interest.

Applicants will be notified in writing of the National Administrator's decision within a period of three months. Approval to operate as an Assessor Accrediting Organisation may be granted with conditions governing the scope of accreditation services that can be provided by that Assessor Accrediting Organisation.

Assessor Accrediting Organisations are expected to be self funded, using fees charged to Assessors to provide services for Assessors. The Australian Government is not expecting to fund the development or set-up costs of Assessor Accrediting Organisations.
