About the Report
The body of this report is divided into 11 chapters.
Chapter 1 contains the report of the Chairman of the Australian Heritage Commission, Mr Tom Harley.
Chapter 2 provides an overview of the AHC, its purpose and responsibilities.
Chapter 3 reports on the condition of the National Estate for the year under review and discusses major initiatives carried out during the year to ensure its long-term conservation.
Chapter 4 provides an outline of the structure of the organisation and its programs.
Chapter 5 is an overview of the outputs against the 2002-03 portfolio budget statements.
Chapters 6-9 are performance reports against each of the four key result areas for the Commission: the National Estate, the community, heritage management and Australian Government heritage properties.
Chapter 10 reports on social justice and equity issues, and on internal and external scrutiny. It also has a report on the AHC's contribution towards ecologically sustainable development.
Chapter 11 contains the financial statements and the Australian National Audit Office's report.
The major documents that contribute to understanding this report are the Australian Heritage Commission Operational Plan 2002-2003 and parts of the Department of the Environment and Heritage portfolio budget statement.
