Our house: histories of Australian homes

Acknowledgments
I am grateful to and impressed by the contributors to Our house, not only for providing fascinating house histories and lending precious photos and plans but also for their patience in awaiting the work over several years and their support for its publication on the Internet. I thank them and the organisations mentioned in each essay for permission to reproduce photographs, drawings and plans, and also the Research School of Social Sciences photographers who copied most of them.
I thank the Australian National University, the Australian Heritage Commission and the Australian Council of National Trusts for supporting my work on Our house. I warmly acknowledge in particular the contributions of Patrick Troy, Rita Coles and Alexandra Marsden. In its formative years Our house was as much Patrick's project as mine and he and Rita provided great practical as well as intellectual support when the project was part of the Urban Research Program and after the university closed the program in 1999. Alex Marsden also played a crucial role by suggesting particular RNE-listed houses and their historians, as a contributor herself and, finally, on behalf of the Australian Heritage Commission as the Internet publisher.
I am grateful to the Australian Heritage Commission for commissioning the web construction of Our house and for publishing this on its website, and I commend its 25 year role in identifying and listing many of the houses that comprise such an important part of Australia's heritage. For their contributions to the final production I would especially like to thank Shirley Nicholls, the skilful webdesigner, as well as Chris Gray at Spincreative, Shibou Dutta for his fine drawings and plans, and Liz Thompson, David Bishop and Andrew Tatnell at the Australian Heritage Commission. Finally, for giving me space, time and support to complete the project, I thank my current employer, the Australian Council of National Trusts.
Our house is dedicated to my sister historian Alexandra Marsden, and to the Marsden family of Yallambee, the home of our happiest childhood holidays.
