HMVS Cerberus, Victoria

HMVS Cerberus. Department of the Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts

Australia's HMVS Cerberus was the prototype for modern steam-powered battleships. Built in 1868, her unique design became the foundation for all surface, gun-armed warships for a century until the advent of guided missiles in the late 1960s. Today, this unique marine relic rests in shallow water at Black Rock, Melbourne.

HMVS Cerberus was included in the National Heritage List on 14 December 2005.
