Heritage grants and funding
The major sources of Australian Government funding for activities that benefit Australia's heritage are:
- Competitive programs under which eligible parties can apply for their project to be considered as part of a formal funding round; and
- Discretionary, ad hoc or non-competitive grants under which funds are approved by the Minister.
Funding programs
National Heritage Investment Initiative (NHII)
The NHII provides assistance to restore and conserve Australia's most important historic heritage places.
Indigenous Heritage Program (IHP)
The Indigenous Heritage Program supports projects that identify, conserve and promote the Indigenous heritage values of places important to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Commemoration of Historic Events and Famous Persons Grants-In-Aid Program (CHEFPP)
This program provides financial assistance to maintain the graves of former Prime Ministers and Governors-General and other projects that commemorate people, events and places of national historical significance.

National Trusts Partnership Program
This program allocates funds to the Australian Council of National Trusts and the State and Territory trusts.
