Grand Canyon Walking Track Conservation Project: significance of site
The Greater Blue Mountains was inscribed on the World Heritage List in 2000. The unique plants and animals that live there relate an extraordinary story of the evolution of Australia's unique eucalypt vegetation and its associated communities, plants and animals. It is an area of breathtaking views, rugged tablelands, sheer cliffs, deep, inaccessible valleys and swamps.
The Grand Canyon is popular with domestic and international bushwalkers and has the largest concentration of stone steps (over 1200) of any walking track known in New South Wales.
