Wilcannia Post Office conservation and adaptation: outcomes
Benefits of project
The Central Darling Shire Council purchased the Wilcannia Post office in 2005 to conserve it for community use. These conservation and upgrade works will ensure that the primary values of the place are maintained, and will allow adaptive reuse of the building. This will ensure ongoing vandalism does not occur.
It is proposed to include the local community in the upgrade works, to ensure there is a sense of ownership of the building, resulting in greater community pride. Once completed, the building will be used for tourism and/or commercial purposes.
