About this document
Australia has played a prominent role in the World Heritage Convention since its adoption. Since 1974, when Australia became the seventh State Party to accede to the Convention, we have taken a leadership role in promoting the World Heritage Convention's objectives and set high standards in meeting our commitments. This was Australia's fourth term as a member of the Committee, having previously served in 1976-83, 1983-89 and 1995-2001.
This document outlines Australia's roles in World Heritage operational reform, policy development and capacity building during it's 2007-2011 term.
