Inland Waters
Indigenous Australians have strong cultural links with water, and they care for it by looking after their land's creeks, water holes, rock holes, streams and rivers.
The Department of the Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts helps Indigenous Australians manage and protect water through a number of programs and initiatives, including:
- Community Water Grants;
- The Great Artesian Basin Coordinating Committee;
- The Inland Waters Information Centre;
- The Lake Eyre Basin Intergovernmental Agreement;
- The Murray-Darling Basin Initiative;
- The National Action Plan for Salinity and Water Quality; and
- The National Water Initiative.
