About the needs analysis
As part of the Bushcare Support contract, Greening Australia was contracted by Environment Australia to develop regional vegetation management summaries for each of the three regions in Tasmania.
Each summary provides a snapshot of the 'infrastructure' currently available in each natural resource management - region to assist in the technical on-ground management of native vegetation in light of 5.5 years of Natural Heritage Trust investment in the regions. The snapshots have been prepared by Greening Australia staff in consultation with key regional stakeholders. This document, Native vegetation management: A needs analysis of regional service delivery in Tasmania represents the conclusions of this process.
The summaries focus on identifying existing vegetation management resources and infrastructure along with gaps, impediments and proposed solutions to ongoing vegetation management within the region.
The summaries draw on the knowledge of Bushcare Support officers, and the wider natural resource management network through broad consultation regarding issues and gaps.
An extensive range of stakeholders was invited to attend a facilitated session to discuss the resources, issues and gaps within each region. Following this session further consultation was undertaken with some members of the network and community. However, due to the limited time available to complete the summary it has not been possible to consult with all possible stakeholders.
Over the 5.5 years of Natural Heritage Trust the Commonwealth has invested around $70 million for 'Bushcare' and other Natural Heritage Trust funding areas for community projects that have an impact on vegetation in Tasmania. The community has contributed an equal amount, if not more, than this figure through either cash or in-kind contributions to their projects. In addition to this figure, the Commonwealth has contracted Greening Australia to deliver Bushcare Support.
