Stakeholder and community input and involvement were important components of the review. The first stage of the public consultation process was through a call for written submissions. The period for making written submissions closed on 19 December 2008. The review initially received 220 written submissions.
The second stage of the public input process was a series of face-to-face consultations with stakeholders in each Australian capital city, which occurred between February-May 2009. Over 140 meetings were undertaken.
The third stage of the public input process was the release of an Interim Report highlighting the key issues raised with the review. Public comment was sought in response to the Interim Report. The period for comment closed on 3 August 2009. A further 119 written comments were received.
Dr Hawke also attended and hosted a number of workshops while preparing the final report to explore issues in greater detail with stakeholders.
