About the application
The Department of the Environment received an application, Australian export from New and Exploratory Fisheries in the CCAMLR Ross Sea Region, from the Australian Fisheries Management Authority in August 2014. The application has been prepared to address the Australian Government Guidelines for the Ecologically Sustainable Management of Fisheries – 2nd Edition. The application will be used to assess Australian harvest from ‘New and Exploratory Fisheries’ in the Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR) Ross Sea Region for the purposes of Part 13A of the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act).
Consideration will be given to:
- declaring Australian harvest from ‘New and Exploratory Fisheries’ in the CCAMLR Ross Sea Region, as managed consistent with the Commonwealth Fisheries Management Act 1991 and the Commonwealth Antarctic Marine Living Resources Conservation Act 1981, as an approved wildlife trade operation under section 303FN of the EPBC Act
- including in the list of exempt native specimens, specimens harvested from ‘New and Exploratory Fisheries’ in the CCAMLR Ross Sea Region under the provisions of the Fisheries Management Act 1991 and the Commonwealth Antarctic Marine Living Resources Conservation Act 1981.
