Last chance to get involved with Australian Heritage Week 2013
29 March 2013
The Australian Heritage Council is making a final call for communities and groups across Australia to get involved and register for Australian Heritage Week 2013.
Australian Heritage Week 2013 will run from 13 – 21 April.
Chair of the Australian Heritage Council, Professor Carmen Lawrence said Australian Heritage Week is a chance for communities to highlight their interesting and diverse heritage to the rest of the country and their region.
“With just over a week to go many event planners and organisers will be frantic with last minute preparations but it is vital that they go online and register their event for Australian Heritage Week to maximise publicity for their event,” Professor Lawrence said.
To register go to http://heritage-week.govspace.gov.au/ . Events during Australian Heritage Week can be registered until 21 April.
“The first Australian Heritage Week was held in April 2011, since then it has continued to grow and develop.
“Last year 387 events were held across Australia, up from the 300 events held in 2011. It would be extraordinary if we could break the 400 mark for Australian Heritage Week 2013.
“This year’s event registrations show a vast array of interesting activities.
“People can enjoy heritage walks, concerts, community fairs and festivals, seminars, open days, tours of historic buildings and hands on activities for children.
“With most events having a minimal entrance fee or being free Australian Heritage Week is a wonderful opportunity for everyone to discover more about their community,” Professor Lawrence said.
