Prime Minister's Award for Environmentalist of the Year


Outstanding environmental achievement will again be honoured with the Prime Minister's Award for Environmentalist of the Year, Federal Minister for the Environment and Heritage, Dr David Kemp, announced today.

"The Prime Minister's Award for Environmentalist of the Year highlights and recognises the work of Australians who endeavour to better our environment," Dr Kemp said.

"The Howard Government recognises the invaluable contribution made by so many Australians in addressing priority environmental issues which is why the Prime Minister continues to support this Award."

Dr Kemp encouraged individuals, organisations and groups involved in the pursuit of environmental excellence to nominate for the award which is administered by the Banksia Environmental Foundation.

The Prime Minister's Award for Environmentalist of the Year is open to any Australian individual, organisation or group that has:

The 2001 Prime Minister's Environmentalist of the Year was Professor Peter Cullen, Director of the Cooperative Research Centre for Freshwater Ecology (CRCFE). Professor Cullen played a leading role at both a national and local level to improve the environmental performance of governments and communities.

The 2002 award will be presented at the Foundation's awards night at the Melbourne Convention Centre on 1 June 2002.
