Media Release
Minister for the Environment and Heritage
Senator the Hon. Ian Campbell

1 February 2005

A distant listening post

Kim Beazley's January newsletter says he is “Listening Locally, Acting Nationally”, but what he doesn't mention is that he will be living in the eastern states for 80 per cent of his time.

However Mr Beazley has told the Australian that:

“You can expect me to be extremely active on the ground in support of my state colleagues.”

(The Australian, 17 January 2005, p2)

Geoff Gallop also features prominently in Kim Beazley's newsletter with two photos and stories.

If he is such a good mate of Mr Beazley he should demand that instead of just “Listening Locally” he should also consider living locally if he wants to participate in the campaign.

Geoff Gallop should tell Mr Beazley that you can't listen locally if you live 3000 kilometres away.
