Australian music acts are set to hit the road and tour regional and remote centres with $127,000 in Australian Government funding.

Arts Minister Peter Garrett said 13 bands will receive grants from Round 17 of the Contemporary Music Touring Program.

"The grants help contemporary musicians tour their live music acts to destinations they may not otherwise be able to reach. It also gives regional Australians anopportunity to experience live music performances in their home towns," Mr Garrett said.

"It is great to see such a mix of experienced and emerging bands. Some great new up and coming talent is supported in this round of funding."

The successful artists include rock, heavy metal, jazz and world music acts.

Among the highlights of the Round 17 applications:

"The quality and diversity of acts supported through the program highlights the incredible talent in the Australian contemporary music scene and gives me great confidence in its future," Mr Garrett said. The next round of Contemporary Music Touring Program grant applications closes on 15 June 2009.
