Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for the Environment, Senator Simon Birmingham, today announced the appointment of Dr Jane Doolan as a new Commissioner to the National Water Commission.
"Dr Doolan will bring a great wealth of knowledge and experience to the Commission's role in providing independent advice to the Council of Australian Governments (COAG) on national water reform progress.
"Dr Doolan has extensive experience in sustainable water management, driving policy initiatives in urban and rural water supply and security, national water reform and water sector governance.
She has worked in intergovernmental policy development and negotiations, and has made important contributions to river health policy, environmental water allocation, institutional arrangements for catchment management and the management of water during drought.
"With this appointment we now have in place a Commission with a strong, contemporary understanding of the water issues facing Australia," Senator Birmingham said.
Dr Doolan has been appointed as a Commissioner nominated by the states and territories. She will commence her new role on 12 December 2013 and will serve until 30 June 2015.
