Ten Australian bands and musicians will hit the road on tours of regional and rural Australia thanks to $91,000 in funding through the Contemporary Music Touring Program, Arts Minister Peter Garrett announced today.
Mr Garrett said the annual funding was an important way the Government could support new and emerging acts.
"The funding I am announcing today will provide Australian performers with an opportunity to tour around the country, share their work and expand their audience," said Mr Garrett.
"The touring programs supported in this funding round cover a mix of styles, with venues in every state and territory, including regional communities, given the opportunity to see some great live acts."
Among the highlights of the Contemporary Music Touring Program tours:
- Killaqueenz from NSW are making their debut national tour ahead of releasing their first album, Out Through Grindin'.
- Sacha Ion and the Voodoo Economics, a Victorian band, are set to tour WA, the NT, SA and Queensland.
- Queensland's Kate Miller-Heidke band will tour to support the release of their second full-length album.
The Contemporary Music Touring Program has assisted around 270 bands to extend their touring and find new audiences in regional and rural Australia. Visit www.arts.gov.au/cmtp
