The Minister for the Arts, Peter Garrett, today announced the appointment of Mr John Morse AM to the National Museum of Australia Council.
“Mr Morse has had a highly successful career in tourism marketing,” said Mr Garrett.
“His achievements have included raising the profile of Australian tourism both domestically and overseas.
“Mr Morse is credited with spearheading Australia’s Olympic Games tourism strategy, and the launch of ‘Brand Australia’ in the late 1990s.”
During 20 years with the Australian Tourism Commission, most recently as managing director, Mr Morse oversaw considerable growth in tourism from Asia.
In 1998 he was awarded the Australian Tourism Export Council award for excellence. In recent years, Mr Morse has focused his career on developing Indigenous tourism. He is chairman of the Mutitjulu Foundation, and a member of the Garma Advisory Group.
“Mr Morse was awarded the Order of Australia in 2003 for services to tourism and the development of Indigenous tourism,” said Mr Garrett.
The National Museum of Australia (nma.gov.au) is one of Australia’s major national cultural institutions, maintaining, developing and exhibiting collections of great significance and giving Australians the opportunity to see and experience their history and cultural heritage.
