Funding for Australian bands to tour

Contemporary music fans in regional and remote areas will enjoy live music performances from eight Australian bands touring around the country.
Arts Minister Peter Garrett said the bands were receiving a total of $74,500 funding from the Australian Government’s Contemporary Music Touring Program.
“This program has supported live music touring in Australia for the past ten years, giving people living outside metropolitan areas greater access to new music, and opportunities for musicians to reach new audiences,” Mr Garrett said.
“It’s great to see Australian bands and musicians in the contemporary music industry taking the important career step of live touring.
“These tours will also bring a whole new set of sounds to communities right around the country, supporting local employment and helping keep venues and businesses operating.”
The new round of Contemporary Music Touring Program funding is supporting bands working in a range of musical styles such as pop, jazz, metal, country/folk and hip hop/reggae, and touring to all states and territories.
Among the highlights of the latest round of applicants:
- Jacam Manricks Quartet from Brisbane will make a six-state tour in March and April 2010. The 'Labyrinth' CD promotional tour will have 12 performances and eight workshops happening at 19 destinations in NT, QLD, NSW, ACT, Victoria and WA.
- Rumpunch from Sydney have been assisted for the WA leg of a national tour in April 2010. The 'West Coast Tour' comprises performances at seven destinations.
- Dan Kelly will make a seven-state tour in February 2010. The tour, titled 'Local Songs for Local People', comprises 20 performances at 20 destinations in QLD, NSW, ACT Victoria, Tasmania, SA and WA.

Contemporary Music Touring Program Round 18 successful applicants
Closure In Moscow – Grant: $10,000
Closure In Moscow is a Melbourne based, five-member alternative rock band and will make a six-state tour in February 2010. The tour, titled 'The First Temple Tour', comprises 20 performances at 20 destinations in QLD, NSW, ACT, Victoria, SA and WA.
Dan Kelly – Grant: $7,096
Dan Kelly is a Melbourne based four-member country/folk/rock band and will make a seven-state tour in February 2010. The tour, titled 'Local Songs for Local People', comprises 20 performances at 20 destinations in QLD, NSW, ACT Victoria, Tasmania, SA and WA.
Five Star Prison Cell – Grant: $10,000
Five Star Prison Cell is a Melbourne based 4 member tech metal/progressive band and will make an all-state tour in March, April and May 2010. The tour, titled 'The Five Star Odyssey', comprises 34 performances and five workshops at 30 destinations in NT, QLD, NSW, ACT, Victoria, Tasmania, SA and WA.
Jacam Manricks – Grant: $10,000
Jacam Manricks Quartet is a Brisbane based contemporary jazz quartet and will make a 6 state tour in March and April 2010. The tour, titled 'Labyrinth', is a CD promotional tour comprising 12 performances and eight workshops at 19 destinations in NT, QLD, NSW, ACT, Victoria and WA.
JAYWALKER – Grant: $10,000
JAYWALKER is a Sydney based four-member pop band and will make a four-state tour in January 2010. The tour, titled 'JAYWALKER East Coast Album Tour', comprises 18 performances and three workshops at 18 destinations in QLD, NSW, ACT and Victoria. The tour will travel to new regional venues for the band.
Rumpunch – Grant: $10,000
Rumpunch is a Sydney based six-member hip hop /reggae /ska /surf band and sought assistance for a WA leg of a national tour in April 2010. The 10 day, tour titled 'West Coast Tour', comprises seven performances at seven destinations.
The Mark Ginsburg Band – Grant: $7,408
The Mark Ginsburg Band is a Sydney based four-member jazz/world band and will make a four-state tour in March and April 2010. Titled 'The Generations Project' tour, it comprises 13 performances and five workshops at 14 destinations in QLD, NSW, ACT and Victoria.
The Shakers – Grant: $10,000
The Shakers are a Sydney based four-member jazz/world/folk band and will make a three-state tour in January and February 2010. The tour, titled 'The Regional Retrofit Tour', comprises 14 performances and four workshops at 14 destinations in NSW, ACT and Victoria.
