2009 Graduate Program

I moved to Canberra from outback Queensland to complete the 2009 Graduate program. With a background in natural resource management and social sciences, I found that my skills in linking social issues with environmental outcomes were well suited to the Department's needs.

I am now involved in strategic environmental assessments, which have given me an opportunity to build on my professional interest in community development and conservation. My passion is finding innovative ways of linking social and ecological values for social well being and long term environmental sustainability, which is becoming increasingly important in best practice strategic environmental planning. The journey has been both challenging and rewarding.

In my opinion, the best thing to do in the public service is to ask questions and get involved! There is always someone somewhere asking for a different perspective and the more you give the more you learn and the more you learn the more you give. It's a very useful upward spiral.
