Ecosystem services and Australian natural resource management (NRM) futures

This report was produced by an NRPCC working group under direction from the NRM Ministerial Council.

It provides a national overview of the development and uptake of Ecosystem Services approaches to decision making within Australian government NRM agencies.

The questions underpinning the report are varied and many including definitions, measurement, policy application and the relationship between ecosystem services thinking and other ways of thinking about the interactions betweem humans and the natural environment.

Incorporating Ecosystem Services thinking in environmental/NRM decision making processes is potentially a significant enhancement in terms of completeness, robustness and sustainability of outcomes.
