About the submission

The current export approval for the Northern Territory Offshore Net and Line Fishery is valid until 30 November 2007 and the fishery is due for assessment for ongoing export accreditation. The Department of the Environment and Water Resources (DEW) received a submission - Northern Territory Offshore Net and Line Fishery Draft Re-assessment Report, August 2007 and Review of the Northern Territory Offshore Net and Line Fishery, August 2007 from the Northern Territory Department of Primary Industries, Fisheries and Mines (DPIFM).

The submission had been prepared to address the Australian Government Guidelines for the Ecologically Sustainable Management of Fisheries - 2nd Edition (the Guidelines) and to provide updates on the implementation of recommendations made in the original assessment.

The original submission was released for a 20-day public comment period which ended on Monday 17 September 2007. Two public comments were received during this period. As a result, DPIFM amended the submission to address comments raised from the public comments.

A final submission - Northern Territory Offshore Net and Line Fishery Re-assessment Report, October 2007 and Review of the Northern Territory Offshore Net and Line Fishery, October 2007, was received by DEW in October 2007. The final submission will be used to assess the operation of the fishery for the purposes of Parts 13 and 13A of the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999.
