About the Report

In March 2007, the Tasmanian Department of Primary Industries and Water provided a submission for further assessment of the harvest of native oysters from the Tasmanian Shellfish Fishery under Part 13A of the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act). The submission – Developmental Fishing for Native Oysters in Tasmanian State Waters and Shellfish Fishery Policy Document 2007 reports against the Australian Government Guidelines for the Ecologically Sustainable Management of Fisheries and provides updates on the implementation of recommendations made in the original assessment undertaken by the Department of Environment and Water Resources (DEW) in April 2004.

The submission was released for a 21-day public comment period that expired on 1 May 2007. No public comments were received. The 2007 DEW assessment report considers the submission and associated documents and provides an assessment against the wildlife trade provisions of the EPBC Act.
