About the application

The Department of Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities has received an application for a permit under Part 13, section 237 of the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act).

The activity proposed to be undertaken is a marine 3D reflection seismic survey for the purpose of increasing the knowledge base of the geological structures for the purpose of indentifying areas of potential carbon dioxide sequestration. Geoscience Australia is proposing to acquire approximately 300 km2 of 3D marine seismic data in Commonwealth Waters within the Vlaming Sub-Basin in the Indian Ocean.
