About the application
The Department of Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities has received an application for a permit under Part 13, section 237 of the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act).
The application is for a permit to undertake observational activities that allow for the photography and videography of sperm, humpback and southern right whales during their migration in Australian waters. The activity will be carried out in Commonwealth waters off New South Wales. The applicant is seeking to collect images to be used to enhance public appreciation and awareness of whale behaviour and migration patterns.
In accordance with the provisions of section 237(3b) of the EPBC Act, you are invited to comment on this proposal before COB 13 August 2012.
