Energy consumption per capita has continued to increase from 1997/98 to 2003/04 when it reached 265.8 GJ per person. Meanwhile energy use per unit GDP has continued to decrease as the national economy grew at a faster rate than the growth in energy use.
The GDP figures used here are chain volume figures referenced to the year 2002-03.
Human Settlements — Pressures created by human settlements on the environment - Energy use
Energy use per capita and per unit GDP show the intensity of energy use across the population.
