Securing water access for sporting reserves within City of Bendigo
City of Greater Bendigo
About the project
The project aims to secure water access for sporting reserves within the City of Greater Bendigo. A plan for each of the identified grounds will be developed that will allow the best water supply or water savings options to be identified for future implementation.
The development of these plans will provide a way forward for the City of Greater Bendigo in minimising the effects of climate change on community facilities and ensure the long term, sustainable supply of water to football and other sporting reserves in the greater Bendigo area. Options being considered include groundwater, rainwater collection, stormwater harvesting, recycled wastewater, irrigation supply, desalination, drought tolerant turf and efficient irrigation techniques.
This project was completed in August 2010 and has resulted in a completed irrigation design document for the sporting reserves within the City of Greater Bendigo. Each sporting reserve has its own design specification which specifies layout and installation details. These irrigation designs will allow for the best water supply and water savings options to be installed.
