A conceptual model of groundwater in the Mansfield Shire
About the project
This project will undertake a study into the interaction between groundwater and surface water within the Mansfield Shire area. The study will assess current groundwater resources in the area and prepare a conceptual model of groundwater within Mansfield Shire. This will ensure the long-term conservation, management and sustainable use of this resource.
The study will provide information about:
- the current use and amount of groundwater available within Mansfield Shire;
- how the groundwater system responds and interacts with the surface water system;
- climate change; and
- future demands for improved management, conservation and long-term sustainable use of groundwater.
This project completed in March 2012 and resulted in development of a conceptual hydrogeological model of the Mansfield Shire area, with particular focus on the populated areas which lie within the Basin. The model has been developed through the collation of existing information and knowledge and analysis of historical and recent data. The model, supported by water balance assessment of the catchment's groundwater and surface water resources, is to form the basis for ongoing groundwater management in the Mansfield Shire.
