Water in North East Victoria - Socio economic Adaptation Planning
City of Wodonga
About the project
The City of Wodonga is the lead Recipient for a consortium of Councils covering the regions of Wodonga, Wangaratta, Benalla, Alpine, Indigo and Towong.
The project will concentrate on the social and economic aspects of climate change with a specific focus on water availability. It will provide in depth analysis and planning solutions in relation to water resource management, saving water through infrastructure improvements as well as reducing consumption and changing behaviours toward water need to take place concurrently.
The City of Wodonga's project aims to develop planning solutions to build resilience and capacity at all levels to respond to the climate change through:
- delivery of vulnerability assessments and resilience planning;
- delivery of social and economic change and adjustment studies;
- development and delivery of practical solutions and tools for all urban and rural water users; and
- development of a regional climate change strategy and action plan.
This project was completed in August 2012 and resulted in “The Regional Climate Change Adaptation Strategy for Northeast Victoria” launched in September 2012. This document provides members of the consortium with strategies and plans to manage the social and economic impacts of climate change particularly in relation to water availability.
