Penrith Recycled Water Scheme Stage 2

About the project

The Penrith City Council has completed Stage 1 of the Penrith Recycled Water Scheme, to provide recycled water for irrigating several playing fields. Stage 2 of this Scheme will provide recycled water to irrigate additional Council facilities and to an expanded customer base. This will be achieved through the installation of an additional 7 kilometres of reticulation pipe.

Project benefits

This project will:

  • produce potable water savings of 135 million litres each year
  • reduce extractions from the Nepean River
  • reduce effluent discharge to the Nepean River, and
  • improve public amenities by providing a secure, year-round supply of recycled irrigation water.

Progress

The project commenced on 22 February 2011 and is scheduled for completion by 30 June 2012.
