Port Macquarie Potable Water Reduction Project

Total funding: Total project cost is $702,600, with funding of $350,000 from the Australian Government under the National Water Security Plan for Cities and Towns and the remaining funding provided by Port Macquarie Hastings Council.

About the project

Port Macquarie Hastings Council is expanding the existing recycled water pipe network to supply current commercial large potable water users with fit-for-purpose recycled water. This will see an additional 4.75 kilometres of purple pipe added to the existing 13 kilometres of recycled water network in Port Macquarie.

Project benefits

This project will:

  • reduce potable water use by 24.4 million litres each year, and
  • reduce the amount of treated effluent being discharged to the Hasting River.


The project commenced on 13 January 2011 and is scheduled for completion by 30 June 2012.
