Busselton Water Meter Reading Retrofit
Total funding: Total project cost of $1.5 million with funding of $763,288 from the Australian Government under the National Water Security Plan for Cities and Towns and the remaining funding provided by Busselton Water Corporation.
About the project
Busselton Water Corporation is installing a complete data collection system utilising radio frequency technology (RF), fitted to all residential properties and fire services within Busselton Water's licensed area. It will enable modified billing methods such as charging off-peak rates. The data collection system will allow early detection of backflow, which will help reduce water loss and protect water quality. Flow on benefits of the improved technology and availability of data for customers will facilitate a reduction in potable water use. The RF device will improve water management efficiencies and reporting capabilities that benefit consumers and Busselton Water.
This project will:
- reduce potable water use by an estimated 26 million litres each year
- conserve water through the early detection of leaks
- protect water quality through the early detection of backflow, and
- improve water management efficiencies and reporting capabilities.
The project commenced on 11 August 2010 and is scheduled for completion by 30 June 2012.
