About the application
The Department of Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities has received an application for a permit under Part 13, section 237 of the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act).
The application is to undertake scientific research on killer whale (Orcinus orca) within Ningaloo Commonwealth Marine Reserve. Research activities include the deployment of satellite tags and extraction of biopsy tissue samples. The objectives of the research is to investigate killer whale movement, determine which population group these individuals belong to and to collect data on humpback predation. Research will be undertaken by Marine Information and Research Group Australia.
In accordance with the provisions of section 237(3b) of the EPBC Act, you are invited to comment on this proposal before COB 9 April 2013.
