Barker Inlet Stormwater Reuse Scheme
About the project:
Project location: Adelaide, South Australia
Funding recipients: SA Water
Total Australian Government funding: $3,925,000 (GST exclusive)
Water savings: up to 300 ML/yr
The aim of this project is to supply fit-for-purpose treated stormwater to be used for industrial, commercial and public open spaces in the Regency Park area, north of Adelaide. The project involves treating stormwater in the existing Barker Inlet Wetlands, injecting it into an aquifer for storage, then extracting and pumping the treated stormwater via a pipeline distribution network to identified areas of high demand.
- Construct stormwater harvesting and reuse infrastructure which, once operational, has the capacity to reduce potable water demand by up to 300 megalitres per year (ML/yr) by replacing mains supply with treated stormwater.
- Promote the sustainable use of alternative water supplies in the Adelaide urban environment.
The project is due for completion by October 2013.
