National water skills strategy
The focus of the National Water Skills Strategy is to work with industry to encourage the uptake of state and national training programs. This project will enable the water sector to take full advantage of the opportunities available through existing government programs. It is anticipated that this project will increase recruitment into the water industry, and improve maintenance and operation of water infrastructure across the country, especially in remote communities.
On 7 December 2009, COAG agreed to redouble its efforts to accelerate the pace of reform under the National Water Initiative (NWI), committing to the National Water Skills Strategy to address skills shortages in the water industry. In support of the strategy, the Australian Government has agreed to fund several initiatives from the Raising National Water Standards program of the National Water Commission.
