Marine Communities

The seagrass areas of Jervis Bay are of special interest, as they rank fifth of the 133 estuaries in NSW in terms of total seagrass species found in NSW. As diverse and abundant assemblages of fish and macro invertebrates depend on the seagrass areas, disturbance caused by loss in reduction and quality of seagrass, disruption of local hydrography and changes to catchment water quality should be avoided. Activities such as anchorages and moorings, naval activities, marine works, propeller wash and algal blooms can potentially cause disturbances to seagrass communities.
