Christmas Island is a remote tropical island in the Indian Ocean located south of Jakarta, Indonesia. Covered by rainforest and surrounded by deep ocean bountiful in marine life, it has rugged limestone coastline. The Island covers approximately 135 sq km, of which about 85 sq km (63 per cent) is Christmas Island National Park. In addition to this terrestrial area, the park includes a marine area extending 50 m seaward of the low water mark where terrestrial areas of the park include the coastline.

There is no entry fee for visitors to the park.

Getting here

National Jet Systems flies from Perth to Cocos and Christmas Islands two or three times a week. Australian Indian Ocean Airline flies to and from Christmas Island once a week from Kuala Lumpur.
