In Kakadu National Park, the Director is also responsible for preparing and implementing the Management Plan in cooperation with the Kakadu Board of Management. The primary purpose of a Management Plan is to define how the park will be managed taking into account the wishes of traditional owners, the impact that tourism will have on the environment and measures that need to be taken to conserve the park's fragile natural and cultural heritage.
The Director carries out the above responsibilities through the park staff, who undertake the day to day running of the park, and through administrative support provided by other sections of Parks Australia.
