Getting here and park information

The easiest way to get to Kakadu National Park is by coach tour or by hiring a car, and traveling from Darwin or Katherine.

Fuel stations located within the park
Refuel your vehicle as frequently as possible. Unleaded and leaded petrol and diesel fuel are available at: Kakadu Resort (at South Alligator), Jabiru, Cooinda and Wirnwirnmila Mary River Road House.

What's open at the moment?

Kakadu is a wild place, with spectacular flooding in the wet season. It's a breathtaking sight, but it means the roads to some parts of the park end up underwater (parts of them even get washed away). The land is now drying out and we are carrying out urgent work to repair roads and fix up campgrounds.

Most of the park is open all year round. If your favourite area isn't accessible yet, you can be sure we're working to get it open for you as soon as possible! We have an 'access report' that we update every day, listing the parts of the park that are open and closed. If in doubt, call the friendly staff at our Bowali Visitor Centre on (08) 8938 1120 for advice or email them at KakaduNationalPark@environment.gov.au.
