An important task in the management of the Park is maintaining and respecting local indigenous culture while accommodating the interests of non-Aboriginal people. While we understand that visitors and people in business want to use the Park, Parks Australia has obligations to protect local Aboriginal law and lifestyle and the integrity of the World Heritage natural and cultural values of the park.
Activities Requiring Permits
All commercial film crews, still photographers, artists and sound recordists will need to apply for a permit to carry out commercial work in the Park.
If you are purchasing an image from an image gallery for use in an advertising campaign, or a tourist who would like to use your holiday photos commercially, you will require a permit.
News and Current Affairs Television, newspaper and radio reporting and filming relating to the "news of the day", as determined by the Park Manager, do not need a permit and are not required to pay commercial filming, photography, artwork or sound recording fees. Such media groups are required to notify the Park Manager of their activities in the Park and undergo a briefing prior to shooting.
Using images of Uluru and Kata Tjuta for publishing
Before using images of Uluru and Kata Tjuta for publication or other commercial use, please contact the Park Media Officer to check if you require a permit.
Overseas applicants
If you intend to carry out activities for commercial purposes while in Australia, it is a requirement under the Migration Act 1958 that you obtain an appropriate Temporary Residence Visa. These can be applied for from any Australian Embassy. Further information on visa requirements can be obtained from immi.gov.au.
