In Noosa, we've had a very strong conservation movement for about 30 years.

I think it's the natural environment that makes Noosa really special. I just feel that when you are around nature like this, you just have a sense of well being.

Our tourism industry has identified the fact that it is the outstanding environmental values of the place, it is a scenic amenity and also its deeper shades of green, if you like, that is what keeps people coming back here time and time again.

The Noosa National Park is Australia's most popular National Park and receives over 1.1 million visitors per year. And of course situated at the base of Hastings Street, one of Australia's most popular tourism precincts, there is a natural link there.

There's been a lot of work within the community to lobby at all levels of Government, to develop a reserve system in this shire which adequately represents and conserves the outstanding environmental values that we find here.

It's the most used river system for recreational use in south east Queensland region, but we've still been able to maintain an "A" rating for the ecosystem health of the river.
