A guide for Commonwealth agencies
About this publication
Working Together: Managing Commonwealth Heritage Places has been prepared to assist Commonwealth agencies and site managers in the management of Commonwealth Heritage places under their control or ownership. It is a user friendly guide which outlines Commonwealth agency responsibilities and compliance matters under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act).
The guide was also developed in response to requests made at the 2007 National Place Managers Forum. State government departments and heritage consultants will also find the guide a useful reference document.
How this documents works
Developed as a reference tool, it includes eight sections designed to be kept in an A4 folder. Each section has its own tab divider to help you easily locate material. Key concepts or tasks such as the preparation of heritage strategies and the application of Commonwealth Heritage management principles are explained and further information is provided on topics such as where to find assistance and key publications. A suggested framework for a management plan and an overview of the referral process is also included.
Sections which draw strongly on the requirements of the legislation have an EPBC Act Quick Guide, which looks and acts as a bookmark. The Quick Guide is intended to help you quickly identify key sections of the EPBC Act and Regulations which relate to Commonwealth Heritage Places.
Please also note that the toolkit is designed to be updated as new material becomes available or amendments are made to legislation. When new material is prepared it is intended that relevant sections be replaced. As a result please note the date of each section which is located on the side of the last page of each section.
