Greenhouse gas emissions
Residential and commercial buildings
Over the next decade the residential and commercial building industry will need to recognise and address greenhouse concerns.
This expanding sector with fast-growing emissions can significantly contribute to meeting Australia's greenhouse gas reduction target and simultaneously improve the comfort and health of Australians in their built environment.
In order to assist a more rigorous debate on the affects of the building sector on greenhouse gas, the Australian Greenhouse Office, in conjunction with the building industry, conducted baseline studies of gas emissions for both the residential and commercial building sectors.
These studies were designed to foster knowledge and debate on limiting greenhouse gas emissions related to the built environment. The Australian Government believes that significant greenhouse gas abatement can be achieved within this sector.
Free copies of the executive summaries of the reports into greenhouse gas emissions for the Australian commercial and residential building sectors are available by phoning 1300 130 606 or by emailing energy.efficiency@environment.gov.au.
