Abstract

The Efficiency Standards for Power Generation measure (referred to as Generator Efficiency Standards or GES) is one of the key energy measures announced in the Prime Minister's 1997 climate change statement, Safeguarding the Future: Australia's Response to Climate Change and aims to encourage businesses to "achieve movement towards best practice" generation performance and, as a result, reduce greenhouse emissions.

This paper focuses on early implementation issues associated with GES.
