About the Guide to the Use of Recycled Concrete and Masonry Material

A Product Specification Handbook

The Guide to the use of recycled concrete and masonry materials is the first publication that brings together the 'state of the art' for concrete and masonry recycling incorporating materials specification at a national level.

Background

The Guide provides engineers with product specification information and the tools required for conventional design with graded recycled construction and demolition (C&D) waste material. Recycling of construction materials is growing, along with the demand for recycled materials. However, growth in the use of recycled materials is often constrained by specifiers' insufficient knowledge of material performance, low awareness of benefits and perceived risks. The Guide to the use of recycled concrete and masonry materials attempts to consolidate available information to provide the tools required for conventional design using graded recycled concrete construction and demolition waste material.

The Guide was created to distil all excisting technical information and potential uses of recycled concrete and masonry waste into a structured format, incorporating specification requirements. The Guide provides reliable information on material properties and performance in a single document with the aim to facilitate decisions on product specification, use and marketing.

Who Benefits?

Publication of the Guide to the use of recycled concrete and masonry materials benefits:

About the Guide

The Guide is set out into 5 sections covering concrete recycling, classification properties, case studies and secondary materials:

1 - An overview of materials and processing requirements of recycled concrete and masonry products.

2 & 3 - General guidelines for the specification and use of classes 1 and 2 recycled concrete aggregated products.

4 - Review of case studies of construction works involving recycled aggregates.

5 - Emerging and conventional secondary materials.

Also included in the Guide is an appendix of relevant documents referred to in the text.

The Guide can be purchased from Standards Australia as HB155-2002.
